Parish Events in February

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

Year for the Bible

Lent Lunches | Exploring the Old Covenant

You are warmly encouraged to join our Lent study group, which starts on 26 February and will meet on Sundays at 12.15pm after Holy Communion. As part of the Year for the Bible, we will explore the great unfurling of God's covenant with humanity through the Old Testament. Each week will focus on how God's purposes were revealed over time to Noah, Abraham, Moses, David and Ruth. Lunch will be provided.

Introduction to Biblical Greek

During Lent, Edward McMillan will be leading an introduction to Koine Greek: the form of Greek widely spoken at the turn of the first millennium and the language of the Gospels and Pauline Epistles. Engaging directly with the source material in its original language provides not only a wonderful opportunity to better understand the language and prose of the New Testament, but also the skills to understand Biblical commentary and exegesis within the wider classical tradition. If you are interested in taking part, please get in touch.

There are a number of other events taking place in and around church this month. Its encouraging to see more people joining in month by month, so make sure you don't miss out.

22 February | 6.30pm | Ash Wednesday Service

To mark the start of the season of Lent, our main service of Holy Communion with the Sung Commination, Litany and Imposition of Ashes will take place at 6.30pm, supported by the St Giles Choir and Quartet. Holy Communion will be celebrated at 1pm and Morning Prayer, 8:15am.

Tuesdays | 6.30pm | Ring for the King

The new ringing group formed to prepare for the Coronation of King Charles III in May is off to an encouraging start, but there is still room for a few more people to make up the team. If you are interested in learning more about bell ringing, please contact the Rector.

18 February | Parish Walk to Fulham Palace

This month's parish walk will be in London. Edward McMillan will be leading us on a stroll along the Thames to Fulham Palace, historic seat of the Bishops of London. We will meet at St Giles at 9.30am. If you are intersted in joining the walk, please put your name down on the sign up sheet in church or you can email with any questions.
