Our West End Evensong Choir at St. Giles-in-the-Fields is looking for new members. St. Giles has a warm tradition of welcoming singers of all ages and from all backgrounds since 2005 when the choir was first formed. Musical Director Jonathan Bunney writes:
The choir is a thriving and lively group - we had a choir of 27 for our Harvest Choral Evensong! But we also welcome new singers and hope to provide a place where everyone can learn and improve. We sing a traditional Sung Evensong each Sunday at 6.30pm, preceded by a 5.15pm rehearsal. The music includes traditional hymns, Anglican Chant and a short anthem. Once a month we sing Choral Evensong with a setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, a longer anthem and choral responses.
The choir often meets for social events, including post-Evensong socials at the local pub, eating out soirees and get-togethers. There are regular outings to sing Choral Evensong at cathedrals; previous visits have included Liverpool, Southwark, Chichester, Guildford, Chelmsford, Winchester, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Norwich, Exeter, Rochester and Ely.
If you are interested in coming for a short, straight-forward audition, Please do get in touch: you will receive a warm welcome. There is no compulsion to commit to every Sunday and you will be able to sign up for regular email updates of rehearsal times and upcoming events. In November, we will be singing the Karl Jenkins requiem as part of the All Soul’s Day Service, followed by preparation for Advent and Christmas.
If you are interested in finding out more, please drop me an email. I look forward to hearing from you.
